Trout Primary School
...the place everyone wants to be!
“SCHOOL PROFILE”
Our students begin here and remain with friends and school family for four years. Trout Primary is a pre-kindergarten through second grade program. Trout is composed of a faculty and staff of approximately 58 members and a student body of 450. This neighborhood school offers diversity in staff and student body allowing for familiarity among ethnic groups developing strong multicultural awareness which fosters appreciation and respect.
The vertically aligned language arts and math curriculums integrated with science and social studies are based on the latest research and presented through regular education classes providing daily music and physical education opportunities , as well as specialized programs for second language learners and students with learning disabilities. Special Services provide support for reading and math through Reading Recovery Individualized Instruction, Dyslexia therapy, Speech therapy, reading and math discovery groups, content mastery, extended day classes, summer school opportunities and the innovative kindergarten “Reading Railroad” literacy lab.
A highly experienced, focused staff researches the latest methods of information presentation and aligns the strategies to the TAKS objectives. Success is experienced each year as the percentages of students meeting the district expectations continue to increase and the TAKS scores meet or exceed the state average.
Extensive technological systems are networked campus-wide utilizing the latest innovative software with internet connection and a portable, 24-laptop, wireless computer lab. The addition of “Alphasmarts” boards for 1st grade consistently support the increasing need for students’ technological awareness at an early age.
Students participate in U.I.L. academic competitions, enrichment activities and various annual fund-raising programs such as “Jump Rope for Heart” and “Red Ribbon Week” which benefit the school and community.
Trout Primary has a very dedicated P.T.K. program and strong support from parent volunteers who visit the campus daily. The Campus Educational Improvement Committee strives to see that the Campus Plan is followed and that all people have a voice in the decision making process.
WHILE THE ACADEMIC EDUCATION OF OUR CHILDREN IS THE MAIN GOAL, WE ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE VALUE OF KNOWING WHAT IS RIGHT, DOING ONE'S BEST, AND TREATING OTHERS AS WE WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED ARE IMPORTANT ELEMENTS TO BE STRESSED WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR THE PEACEFUL AND CARING ENVIRONMENT ENJOYED AT TROUT.
